Yuan Xin Goh, BS

Associate Research Specialist

Hi! I’m Yuan Xin (pronounced "yen-sin"), and I am an Associate Research Specialist at the Tsai Lab. I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. My research journey started at the UCLA Drug Discovery Lab under Dr. Varghese John, where I worked on the in-vitro testing of potential therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. During my time there, I was responsible for treating SH-SY5Y cell lines with various compounds to test for increased sAPP-alpha protein secretion. Additionally, I spearheaded the harvesting, growth promotion, and utilization of enteric neurons as a model to assess potential therapies for Parkinson’s disease.

Research interests: Given my background in drug discovery and public health, I am most excited about translational research. I want to do work that may have a tangible, positive impact on vulnerable communities. Whether it involves cancer biology, immunology, microbiology, or beyond, I would love to help solve real-world health challenges.

Favorite food: A well-made hot sandwich.

Beverage of choice and protocol for preparation: Coke Zero, served with lemon slices and ice filled to the very top of the cup.

Favorite lab technique: TBD! I’m looking forward to finding my new favorite here.

Hobbies: Reading, hosting friends, salsa dancing, watching TV shows, and playing NYT games.
